Welcome to the August edition of The Good We’re Building! |
Last month was filled with reasons to celebrate—from new community partnerships and grant awards to donation drives, volunteer initiatives, and other exciting events. Thank you for following along, and remember: we couldn’t serve the thousands of families who rely on MHM without YOU! |

Pop-Up Fun at Fly Dance Fitness LWR – Support for Our Oct 5k Event |
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fly Dance Fitness LWR and came out to build support for our Community in Motion 5k Event coming this Oct 4th. We loved meeting new faces, sharing the mission of MHM, and getting everyone excited for this year’s Community in Motion Race. The energy in the studio was incredible, and we’re so grateful to Fly Dance Fitness for their partnership. |

Second Chance Last Opportunity Back-to-School Event |
|
|
|
We recently joined a back-to-school event where families received backpacks with school supplies, food, free haircuts, and information from local community agencies. MHM was proud to have three high school volunteers represent us. They helped Spanish-speaking families learn about MHM’s services and how we support local families. They also added some fun by teaching attendees to fold paper fortune tellers and sharing simple, screen-free activities families can enjoy at home. |

| Thank You, The Starbucks Foundation |
We’re honored to receive a $2,000 Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation. These grants begin with nominations from local Starbucks partners, making this recognition especially meaningful. Thank you to the partners who nominated MHM and believe in our work to strengthen local families. |

|
| Thank You, UNFI Foundation |
We’re deeply grateful to the UNFI Foundation for a generous $5,000 grant supporting our Welcome to the World program. This funding will help provide infant formula for newborns during those critical first weeks, when a family may still be waiting for benefits or other assistance to begin. Every baby deserves a safe and healthy start, and every mother deserves the dignity and peace of mind that come with being able to provide for her child. |

Thank you to Lisa Pafe, President of UPWC, and all the wonderful club members who shopped our Amazon Wish List to provide new shoes for children heading back to school. Your generosity helped make sure local kids could start the school year with something new, needed, and all their own. Every new pair of shoes helps a child walk into the school year with confidence. |

Donated by Joyner Family Insurance |
We were honored to be selected as the Charity of the Quarter by Joyner Family Insurance for Q2! Through their Help Our Community Referral Program, every referral made to their team resulted in a donation of $1,760 to support families served by MHM. Additionally, they hosted a diaper drive for us. We are so thankful for the support. |

| Special Call for Volunteers: Social Media & Event Committees |
Mothers Helping Mothers is looking for volunteers who want to use their talents to help us grow our impact. We especially need support with marketing and social media, as well as volunteers interested in serving on planning committees for our upcoming Toy Day and POP Gala. Whether you have professional experience, creative ideas, event-planning skills, community connections, or simply a little time and a willingness to help, we would love to have you involved. South County Mobile Store in Action |
It was another hot, but impactful month down at the South County Mobile with lots of visitors, families served, and volunteers giving their time and hearts from Port Charlotte to Venice. One photo from the month now holds an especially meaningful place in our hearts. Ann Hackett, wearing a bright hot pink wig and bringing smiles to everyone around her, perfectly captured the spirit of our South County volunteers. We are heartbroken to share that Ann passed away on August 13 at the age of 80. She will be deeply missed by our MHM family and by all those who had the privilege of serving alongside her. We are so grateful for the joy she brought, the love she shared, and the example she leaves behind. Ann’s spirit is a beautiful reflection of what makes our volunteers so special: showing up, giving generously, and bringing warmth and joy to the families we serve. Her light will continue to be remembered throughout our South County community. |

|
Thanks to the Louis & Gloria Flanzer Philanthropic Trust, every dollar donated by individuals or private foundations will be matched up to $500 per month (up to $3,000 per year) doubling your impact! Because we have no rent, debt, or electric bills (thanks to solar power) and benefit from thousands of volunteer hours, nearly every dollar goes directly to supporting local families in need. $25 becomes $50 so donate today and make twice the difference. Business donations are not eligible for matching, but are deeply appreciated. Businesses may donate here: https://mothershelpingmothersinc-bloom.kindful.com/ |
